Jonathan Belcher was born on January 8, in 1681 or 1682, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the son of Andrew and Sarah Belcher. In 1737 George II appointed a commission to settle the boundary conflict between Massachusetts Bay and New Hampshire. Both sides appealed the commission's decision to the King, who settled the matter in an order in council issued Apr. 9, 1740.
